This is me here. On a good day, of course.
Hi, my name is Bryony
I am a freelance writer, part-time tutor, serial ruminator and mother to two beautiful children. I love music. Lots of it. I can listen to mostly anything.
When it began
I started this blog in February 2019 after making an extraordinarily hard career decision.
Having to leave my Teacher Training was a hard call to make. Teaching was something I’d always wanted to do and it seemed as if I was completely on track when it came to my career. in 2017, I had my whole life ahead of me and the world was most definitely my oyster. So when I found out I was pregnant at the beginning of my training year, I had no idea what I would do.
It was clear not long after having my daughter that the reality of completing my Teacher Training was a bit of a pipe dream. Sky-high childcare costs as well as other financial and ‘two places at once’ dilemmas made it impossible; In the end I decided to call it quits.
It was by far the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make, but at the time it was right. What it did highlight to me was how backwards things were for many mums. With cost of childcare and burden of the ‘mental load’ on mums’ shoulders, the world of work has been made completely inaccessible to many.
Those who did work were often faced with difficult choices, sunk salaries and also stigma from others. Basically, you were damned if you did and damned if you didn’t.
Thats’s when I started to write my blog. To talk about my own experiences but also to talk about common experiences in motherhood. I wanted to talk about the good times- the highs and smiles but also the really shoddy moments. The splitting headaches, mounting laundry and also sometimes debilitating depression. It’s these things that get the motherhood ‘whitewash’ and aren’t spoken about enough.
So please have a read! You’re here now, you might as well…
